Role

Role Profile

 

The Capital Markets business within the London Stock Exchange Group is responsible for the providing Exchange trading systems for the customers. This role is sits within the Application Services team in the technology division within Capital Markets. The responsibility of the team is to operate the trading platforms.

The role is for a devops engineer within the Application Services team. The engineer will be responsible for developing the infrastructure and automation to operate a new platform running within AWS.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS cloud technologies as well as modern build, configuration and release management tooling and processes. In addition, some knowledge of managing infrastructure services would be useful, such as networking and system administration.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build code to provision the full stack from infrastructure through to application
  • Integrate the application into the operations architecture such as Datadog, Control-M, Rubrik
  • Build CI/CD pipelines to orchestrate the promotion of code
  • Ensure that all operational responsibilities are performed including monitoring systems and deploying releases
  • Perform Incident Management, Problem Management and Request Management responsibilities following the standard group processes
  • Write and maintain support documentation, technical specifications and user guides
  • Support development changes, providing accurate estimates for time and capital costs, attending project meetings and analysing impact for proposed project work and meeting deadline
  • Provide effective escalation and resolution of issues and problems to stakeholders
  • Proactively identify and raise operational risks and technical debt. Provide short term solutions whilst supervising long term resolution.
  • Take ownership of operational live service issues and drive their resolution in order to reduce the number of recurring technical issues
  • Proactively identify and implement operational improvements for processes, performance and reliability
  • Develop an understanding of procedures and SLA/SLO/SLI’s for all services supported by the team.
  • Provide Level 2 technical advice and risk assessment based on knowledge of applications, databases and system software
  • Gain an in depth knowledge of the unit’s processes
  • Collaborate with other IT teams across the organisation in order to create common standards
  • For any supported interfaces develop an understanding of how they all interact
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure operational requirements are met and changes impacted and implemented
  • Support development changes, providing accurate estimates for time and capital costs, attending project meetings and analysing impact for proposed project work and meeting deadlines
  • Invoke level 3 support requests, manage their progression and provide input from an operational perspective
  • Provide on-call support as required to support the live service

Requirements

Key Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise DevOps
  • Strong background in Linux and/or Windows
  • Strong coding/scripting experience (BASH/Shell)
  • Experience with configuring and using a CI/CD tool such as Jenkins
  • Experience with provisioning and configuration management using Bitbucket, Ansible, Terraform or equivalent
  • Git source control using Bitbucket or equivalent
  • Experience with AWS - AWS API, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, Route53, VPC, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Cloud-Trail, IAM, ADFS, ElastiCache, Microservices, Elastic Beanstalk
  • Experience with security best practices for data at rest and data in-transit using AWS tools such as SSE-KMS, security policies, cryptographic protocols
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Pro-active approach to learning about and adapting to new technologies

 

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of the build and operation of web sites
  • Experience of the best practises to support always-on mission critical systems
  • Appreciation of the business processes and their importance
  • Knowledge of agile software development and DevOps philosophies
  • Experience of managing and operating containers, Docker, Kubernetes, Anthos.
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience with Java, Node.js and Python
  • Experience with Hadoop Eco system or AWS Elastic MapReduce service and other ETL related AWS services such as AWS Glue, Athena, QuickSight, Lake Formation and SageMaker.
  • Experience handling large volumes of structured and unstructured data in terms of storage choices such as S3, RedShift, S3 Glacier and efficient data formats such as Parquet and ORC
